Doomsday is an official Special Delivery map, and is the only map of its type. It is set in a desert settlement built around a large rocket. RED and BLU fight over a neutral intelligence briefcase that must be delivered to a control point on a rocket in the center. When the round starts, it takes 45 seconds for the intelligence to spawn. While the intelligence holder is on the point, the control point slowly raises up, and when it reaches its maximum height, the rocket top unscrews to reveal a slot for the intelligence. At the end, the holder must physically touch this slot, at which point the round is over and the holder's team wins.
Doomsday was added to Team Fortress 2 Classic on July 4, 2020, in the Death & Taxes update. It was created by Valve, and was prior added to Team Fortress 2 on June 27, 2012.
Locations
Overview
Spawn
Each team spawns inside a small interior shack, which goes out into a field with three exits that finally exit out of spawn. Two exits lead to the middle zone behind a rock, while the last one leads to the intelligence through a battlement.
Intelligence
The intelligence is in an enclave surrounded by cliffside and shacks, placed conspicously on a painted X within a crashed box. The bridge covers a small pool of deep water, and battlements are built to each side of it. There is a sewer path for each team, in addition to two paths to the middle bridge.
Middle
The middle area is the zone before the rocket. It consists of a minecart bridge above an empty ravine, splitting the map in half. The ravine is deep, and at its end is a lethal fall down a mine shaft. When the round ends, the exhaust from the rocket blasts anyone inside into the shaft below.
Rocket
The rocket is the map's only Control Point, and looms over the players below. When the intelligence is taken to the Control Point, it raises slowly, until reaching its apex. Once the intelligence is slotted, the rocket launches, exploding far off into the distance. Fortunately, no life is lost during this explosion, especially that of the simian variety with particularly silly names.
