The Fire Axe is the default melee weapon for the Pyro. It is a red-colored fire axe.

Each hits deals 65 damage.

The Flare Gun was added to Team Fortress 2 in the 2008 "Pyro Update", and was the first unlockable to be an almost entirely different type of weapon from it's stock alternative.
Unlike the Flare Gun, which is team-colored, the Fire Axe is always colored red.
